Homeowner in Dunnellon had an old concrete patio slab out back that was cracked, heaving, and turning into a trip hazard. Tree roots had pushed up one whole corner about four inches. It was roughly 12 by 16 feet and poured pretty thick — probably four inches of concrete over gravel.

We came out, looked at it, and gave a price on the spot. Showed up two days later ready to work.

Started by cutting the slab into sections with a concrete saw. Then went at it with a jackhammer to break those sections into pieces small enough to load. The tree root situation made some sections easier to pop loose, but the areas that were still flat and intact took some real effort. Concrete removal is always a grind — pun intended.

Loaded all the broken concrete into the truck by hand. Heavy work. Took us most of the day between the breaking and the loading. Swept up the gravel and smaller chunks, raked the dirt underneath roughly level, and left the homeowner with a clean patch of ground ready for whatever they want to do next — new patio, grass, garden, whatever.

All that broken concrete and rebar went straight to a facility that recycles it into road base material. None of it hit a landfill.
