Homeowner in Citrus Springs had a back deck that was past saving. About 300 square feet of pressure-treated lumber — the boards were soft, the railing wobbled, and a couple of the joists had split clean through. Nobody was walking on that thing safely.

We started by pulling up the deck boards with pry bars. Most of them snapped on the way up, which tells you how far gone the wood was. Took the railing down next, then worked on the joist framing. The ledger board was still lag-bolted into the house framing so we pulled that carefully to avoid damaging the siding. Deck teardowns are all about working methodically from the top down.

Posts were set in concrete footings. We cut them flush at ground level — homeowner didn’t want us digging up the footings since he’s planning to pour a patio slab over the same area later.

Whole teardown and cleanup took about five hours. Loaded every scrap of wood, every bolt, every piece of hardware into the truck. Swept the area clean and hauled all the lumber and fasteners to the transfer station. Homeowner said he’d been dreading it for two years but it turned out to be a one-day job.
